EOTC Week 2018

Camp Iona and Year 5 Adventure Week

I've been fortunate to be involved in both programmes this week.  The year 6's are having an amazing time at Camp Iona.  I spent Tuesday and Wednesday with the children who are having heaps of fun. Thursday and Friday I will be with the year 5's.
The students from Room 7 are trying new things, learning how to organise themselves, meeting new friends and rising to any challenge thrown at them.  They can all be so proud of their accomplishments.
I look forward to the next few weeks as we share our stories/accomplishments with each other.

Launching Projectiles and Data Collection

Delving deeper into projectile launching

We're connecting ideas together now between energy that is potential (stored) and energy that is kinetic (moving)
Team work is essential for this science experiment. We need to be active participants by watching where the rubber band lands and ensuring the angle and pull of the launch remains the same.

Maths is part of the learning too as we count the number of steps then convert this into cm.

Some of us experimented with our launching technique and discovered that our projectile distance was much greater as a result.

Next week we will continue to test out our projectiles and will also graph and analyse the results.

Fun Friday Science and Technology

Making a shooter

Our physics journey continued today with an investigation on forces (pushing and pulling)

Some of us adapted the angle and height of our shooter to demonstrate a different flight path.

Others adapted the original design to create a more powerful shooter (whilst still using the same materials)

It was great fun converting the elastic potential energy into kinetic energy by launching our projectiles

Welcome to Room 7 2018!

Hands on Science

Part of our Fun Friday programme - hands on science lessons

Our first session was all about making simple machines

Here we are designing a vehicle using a wheel and axle. We followed this up in our home learning by exploring simple machines around the house

A lot of creative thinking is going into our designs. We are also learning to make a prediction and explain our thinking using scientific language.

Physics experiments are our focus area this term. Here we are making miniature motors.

We designed a propeller which was powered by our motor. We experimented with how to rotate the propeller forwards and backwards.
